Snakes

I saw my first rattlesnake the day before yesterday up in Runyon.

On the access road walking down, half on the road half in the dirt. It was quite frightening because if I had just been up in the hills/more grassy part where they probably run rampant, I might have stepped right on him.

I usually make a habit of walking with my head down while up there. Today I didn't feel like being friendly to everyone like I usually am while up there (it's normal for people to say hello as you pass probably the only place like that in Hollywood) and secondly I like to see where I'm stepping as I wouldn't enjoy stepping in dog waste as some people still have problems removing their dog's waste. When I passed him, I was only about a foot and a half away, and thought to myself "What a big stick...with a big fucking rattle on it holy shit a rattlesnake". I think I was lucky. He was watching me but he didn't rattle. But for as close as I was, he very well could have sprung up and bit me as snakes often do.

Now I've been in California since the 90s and I'm always hiking, always, and this is the first snake I've seen. And being a potential deadly one. If I had been a little closer... or if he had been a little fiestier, I may have ended up with a problem.
